Northbound is my first proper long-haul road trip in years, and I can’t wait to get going. I’m heading as far north as the roads will take me, sleeping in a 4×4 that will be my home, my kitchen and my window onto some of the wildest landscapes in Europe.

The route takes me back to Iceland, where I first set foot in 2016. This time I get to explore what I had to leave behind back then, the Westfjords and the Highlands. From there I hop over to the Faroe Islands, then drive the full length of Norway up to the Arctic Circle, before turning south through Finland all the way down.

The last time I lived on the road was in my van in 2017, so this trip is shaping up to be a very different beast. Smaller vehicle, colder weather, and this time I’m going solo the whole way. That contrast is a big part of why I’m so excited. It genuinely feels like a proper adventure.

If you happen to be in any of these places around the same time as me, please do get in touch. I’d love to share a coffee, a viewpoint or a campfire along the way. Here are the dates so you can see if our paths might cross:

  • Iceland: 6 to 20 August
  • Faroe Islands: 21 to 30 August
  • Norway: September, heading up to the Arctic Circle
  • Finland: October, all the way down

Stay tuned for stories, photos and updates from the road. Hop on the Telegram channel or join the newsletter and come along for the ride.
